The canon bone is characteristic of evolved ruminants whose both metacarpi (and both metatarsi) have knitted together. This bone is situated between the phalanges (fingers) and the carpus bones (equivalent of the wrist for the human) or the tarsus bones (equivalent of the back of the foot for the human).
