Corals lived into the few holes visible with the naked eye whereas bryozoans lived into the innumerable tiny holes which constitute the main volume of the calcareous skeleton. Both kinds of colonies lived in symbiosis. We can also find these bryozoans without their associated corals. An example is visible here.
